The goodwill it generates would be well worth it in my mind.

I've heard the same thing mentioned with Amazon HQ2 about multiple markets, whoever gives them the best tax breaks will probably end up with it. Pretty much any area with a tech scene is in the mix from Austin to Pittsburgh.

I don't use it to value a property but I may consider in when picking a marker in general. For instance I have one out of state property that throws off cash with little to write off that income. Minimal chance at appreciation on the property/market. I might be more willing to buy in a hotter market as an appreciation play on a property that is breakeven cash flow if I can use some of that depreciation to help pay down taxes on my other property.

Agree that it won't help the seller get top dollar but if the motivation is truly to liquidate asap that info will help drum up interest from buyers. You won't hear that story in a hot market like Denver unfortunately!

I feel this will be a great investment opportunity - it'll take weeks/months for the market to adjust imo.

My parents in upstate NY are convinced it will end up there, I'm sure there are 50+ other places thinking the same thing :)

Excellent marketing on Amazon's part as well, they have cities/states competing to pay them to move there while getting the word out there to the tech community to increase their talent pool. If they locate somewhere with good REI opportunities that might be something for me to investigate myself :)

@Scott Trench Which area of Denver did you find that quadplex in (roughly)? I haven't seen any multi-families in that range except perhaps in Aurora area. How'd you get the lead, MLS or some other source?

Personally I think the Denver market will continue to grow, lots of folks like myself coming in from NYC/SF due to the growing tech scene and just as has happened with other tech hubs prices will continue to rise at least over a long-term time horizon.

Denver is one of the best positioned cities for 30 yrs from now in my mind. I'm looking to get into a house hack somewhere in the Denver area using an FHA loan.

Not sure why everyone is saying this is unethical - this has been the case with most of the properties I've put in offers on (in CO & NY). Selling agent tells my agent that there is a higher offer in either vague or unspecified terms. I come back with something else and see what happens. Better than just saying "nope we're going with the other offer" in my book.

Roy N. nailed it - best permanent solution here is to try to monopolize the block and only have decent tenants in your own properties. If that option fails look at getting out entirely.
