Hey everyone,

Thanks @Kyle Elmer for pointing me to this thread, its a good way to see what other kiwis are doing!

I am new to the forums and the REI world. I am based in Auckland and work in the CBD and I am at the research stage and strongly leaning towards buy and hold at this stage, however I am all ears when it comes to others experience and their point of views on other methods and what advantages and disadvantages accompany different methods with REI.

I most definitely will keep saving, from what the news is saying, the Auckland market is slowly cooling down, however the prices are still rising, but no where near as quickly as it has been over the last 2 or so years. I am possibly looking to invest in Palmerston North and Wellington areas.

It seems people are divided on whether the markets bubble will pop or continue to expand. But from what I have been reading from overseas markets that have similar trends, the bubble bursts and when it does, people that have recently purchased family homes get hit hard by it.

Thanks everyone!

Just a little background on my current situation, I am 24, currently renting, and have 2 boarders whom cover 90% of rent at present, I know they will not be around forever, however I have been debating whether or not to start looking into purchasing my own home first. I know my partner would prefer this, or starting out in REI first. I don't have a whole lot of money saved at this point, hence why I am starting to learn more about REI and what direction I want to take. We have finished paying off our debts and we are able to save approximately $3000 a month. Generally more, however this accounts for any unexpected bills or situations that arise during this time.

@Bhuvanandra S Kumar I see there is alot of useful information on here, do you have any reading recommendations for a beginner like my self?

@Kyle Elmer Thanks for pointing me in the direction of that forum. I definitely will take a look and connect with some kiwis.

@Timothy H. I have noticed whilst reading some of the articles and guides on here that some of the situations and examples don't really fit how New Zealand works, however I still don't know a whole lot about how New Zealand works either. Do you know any New Zealand related blogs/articles that would be useful for a beginner like myself?

@Rachel H. Travelling down New Zealand is always a great pleasure, looking at the scenery and in general just taking in the beauty the nature offers! I know my dog sure does love it.

Hi Everyone, I am David Logan, a Software Engineer from Auckland, New Zealand and I am currently looking into what REI is all about however I have no background in Real Estate nor does anyone in my family. I do know that I want to invest my money in Real Estate and potentially in years to come retire with the income being generated from my properties. I am interested to hear about others experiences with REI and connecting with others in Auckland and around the world. I have little knowledge at this point in regards to REI, but I am reading plenty of the information provided on this site to grow my knowledge and hopefully start my journey with REI!
