Post: Moving to Maryland in about 9 months, what's best?

Hello!

I'm going to be moving to the Maryland side of the Washington D.C. Metro area, and I want to know what some of the best real estate models there are for the area. I've heard that in Washington DC, property is generally expensive and good deals are usually found in renovation projects, and that's fine because I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty! Is anyone in the area willing to explain their investing models to me? I'll take all the advice I can get!

I'd love to know what you're all doing in that area so I can start preparing now. Thanks!

Yeah, I'd love to do that, too. My wife is an on-site property manager though, so we can't move into any place. I'm reading the creative financing book right now to learn about my options.

Hey Bryce that's a good idea! I didn't know you could do that.

I'm looking for rental properties, and in particularity interested in 4-plex units. I like the idea of multiple income and a little bit of security with multiple leases, but I'm really open to anything. What about you?

Thanks @Neal Collins, I'll definitely start talking with the owner at least to get my foot in the door. My wife knows him really well, so maybe we'll take him out to lunch one day.

And thank you @Gerardo Dominguez for the good tip! I've started looking around and seen there is already a ton of information on the forums. Thanks for your response!

Sorry @Neal Collins, I don't want to buy the 107 unit property (at last not yet!), I just live here now. But because we have to live on site for my wife's job, we can't move out.

Hi!

Right now, my wife is an on-site property manager for a pretty nice 107 unit apartment complex. We have to live here on the property, so some little-money-down options for financing (like FHA loans) are out. What are some other options for financing options for someone in my position who can't be an owner-occupant? Thanks!

Hey! I'm new to both Bigger Pockets and Real Estate Investing. Looking around in the forums, it seems that there aren't many people investing here. I've also tried the "Find Members" tool, but it just shows me a bunch of people nowhere near me, haha.

Is there anyone out there looking to find people in the Provo Area to Work/Learn with?

Hi everyone!

I've never been big into forums, but after listening to the podcast for about a week, I've decided I want to get more involved! I'm studying Mechanical Engineering at BYU and will graduate next spring. My wife and I both have really great jobs (for your age, I suppose). I have a great job on campus and she manages the Ventana Student Housing here by Krispy Kreme. We live rent free, so we've been able to save a good chunk of change and I'm getting excited about investing.

We plan on moving to the D.C. area someday, but for now we're looking to learn as much as we can about this market and hopefully get started investing here. I'd love to meet some of you here and look forward to working together! I'm planning on staying very active on the site, so I look forward to becoming a contributing member of the community! If anyone has some good tips or insight for the Utah Valley (or D.C.) area, I'd love to hear it!
