@jeremy Pace could you extrapolate a little more for me? This is relatively new to me.

Hi,

I am taking over a 20 year old family real estate brokerage business.   I am new to the real estate business but I have had a RE brokers license for some time and never used it.  The business is located in Brooklyn New York and there will be roughly 3 agents working with me  It is mainly a commission based on sales and rentals fIrm  and though it has survived the last 20 years it needs new business model ideas.

I am interested in responses which  can give me ideas on how to generate new income and use technology to achieve this. What other avenues can I pursue in the Brooklyn New York area besides commissions based on sales and rentals?  What other options are there available to me out there?

As I mentioned, I am new to this so any advice would be helpful and I know this is the place to reach out for guidance and advice.

Mike Duran, BTW can you point me to more information on a local REIA such as Black Diamond?

Where are their meetings held, frequency, contact info. Would love to run into you at one of their get togethers.

Mike I responded to your request. I see you are from Chelsea. Thanks for the 411 concerning Worcester. I live on the Worcester county town line 7 houses from Southboro Mass so I need to get familiar with the opportunities in Worcester. feel free to educate me. This is all new to me seeing my 9-5 is in the software industry.

Matt thanks for the welcome and advice. As you mentioned it's better to be well-trained in today's market than go off on my own and flounder.  Any suggestions of where I can get good hands on training in the Boston area?     Our brokers receptive to someone working on a part-time basis?

Thanks for the responses. I am a licensed real estate broker thinking of joining MAR/NAR so I don't think I am breaking any rules here.

I don't mind showing available houses for sale on MLS on my website using IDX raw feed like I see most big RE shops are doing. My main concern is how difficult is it to split commissions with a listing broker if I find a buyer for his exclusive listing using my own website.

Hopefully I am making sense here.

I am interested in map/location IDXs which can be run on hand held devices.

Also, are there MLS sites which will allow me to download raw data for "FREE"? If such sites exist do they offer starter software to get you up and running? How reliable is the data and is it updated frequently?

You don't need to explicitly answer my questions but pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

How is this achieved? What are the charges and what is the best starter software out there?

I am a newbie to the real estate industry, but I do have a software background so you can get technical if you have to.
