If you are familiar with Gary Keller’s book Millionaire Real Estate Investor, then you know the four stages:

Stage One: Think a million

Stage Two: Buy a million

Stage Three: Own a million

Stage Four: Receive a million

This group is moving towards Stage Four. This is a free Bigger Pockets meetup that is open to anyone who wants to network and discuss all forms of real estate investing. This is an ongoing monthly meetup in Prince Georges County Maryland but has members from around the DMV area. We are investors with an interest in real estate investing in-state or out of state. This group is based on democracy so everyone has an equal vote on how this group is run. I live in Bowie Maryland and have a rental in Silver Spring Maryland, Alabama, and Vermont.

Two members of my newly formed REIA are looking to buy their first home. What should they do to choose a good realtor?

I am new to BP, but started a meetup 3 months ago in my city of Bowie Maryland. The reason that I started the BP meetup was to connect with other local investors (without the pitches of traditional REIAs. 

Month 1 two people

Month 2 four people

Month 3 eight people

We are now looking for a larger space to meet (is Paneras coffee now). We are trying to keep it free and are looking at Wegman's grocery as they have a free eating area and meeting rooms (200.00 for 4 hours) Ouch. Josh Dorken and Brandon Turner recommended creating the meetup to network with investors and it is working.

I am still attending other REIA's but this one is full of new BP members helping other new BP members. I am also taking a home inspection class with the person that came to the month 1 meetup. Now we have another classmate and his wife attending the meetup. We are expecting it to grow and I am very excited to be doing this. Can you tell that I love BP and the community?

Please keep up updated on how you found your deals. I am going to try direct mail marketing in the near future. Even though I am buy and hold, I am looking for off market deals and if it is something that I do not want, I can wholesale it. I have about 6 six side hustles and this will be 7. A college professor can only do so much.

I cannot believe that you even noticed me. I am a huge fan. I am planning my retirement but if I could scale like you, life would be great. You are one the people that motivated me to take action.

My wife and I started going to southern Alabama annually to look for land. On the last trip down (after learning of BP and listening  a bunch of podcasts), I said why not look at rentals as long as I am down here looking for land. I bought a duplex. I know the area a little but I am working with a realtor who is investor friendly and was my power of attorney at the closing. Now, I am on to my second deal, just a few months later. BP is awesome. I am not doing bad for newbie.
