To be more specific. I am looking at possibly purchasing the 5 unit office building myself and 2 partners rent space in. We are located in Hanover, MA the town center area. The building is fully occupied but I wanted to see if I could find some info on the surrounding area. I looked online at neighborhoodscout.com and was able to find the residential vacancy rate but couldn't find anything on commercial properties in the area. Are there other any other good online resources that anyone knows of that might help? Thanks

Im a newbie trying to do some analysis on a commercial property in Massachusetts. Can anyone point me in the right direction on where I can lookup vacancy rates? Thanks in advance!

Thank you all for the welcome and advice! I look forward to furthering my education and building connections here on Biggerpockets. I plan on attending some local REI groups (thanks for the suggestion Ann) and Mike thank you for taking the time to lay out a good place to start with my goal setting and research).

As far as working capital I also have a couple of older IRA accounts from a previous employer. I have a 401k with my business now that I would not want to touch.

Does anyone have any knowledge on whether i could use these IRA accounts to help me get started or is this not advisable because of the tax implications.

Thanks again everyone!

My name is Christopher Wilbur. I am an owner/partner at a technology firm in Eastern Massachusetts and I am looking to break into real estate investing. I came across this site as well as the podcasts last week and am very excited to start learning from all the professionals involved in this community!

As I said i would like to break into Real estate investing but I really don't even know where to begin. I am interested in buying and holding rental properties and perhaps getting involved in a couple of Flips. My ultimate goal is for passive income earned with these properties to cover my current living expenses (and hopefully more). I do not have much capital to work with at the moment and work full time.

Any advice for a newbie like me hoping to get started in Massachusetts?

Thanks!
