I worked as a debt collector on secured loans, that became unsecured loans through either BK or a host of other issues. We typically would accept 10% as a settlement in full on the unsecured debt, and the company would retain 30% of what we collected.

I previously worked in debt collection and we had a whole skip tracing department. At that level we also had access to credit reports and could glean information from there as well.

You searched the public records, but still could not find the owner information? What suburb of Dallas was it? The county records are usually pretty decent.

This looks intriguing, is there an e-mail list or a Meetup group that I can join to keep informed of these meetings?

There is a SF housing shortage shaping up in the Dallas area. There are tons of apartments coming online in the next 12 months, but the SFH market will stay strong. Average home costs and rents have risen dramatically in the past 18 months in the area. We have a strong job market that is driving new growth and I don't see it declining anytime soon. All of the menial jobs around town have 'hiring now' signs in their windows.
