Hi @Derrick Lasley

Here is a group you might check out: Mid-America Association of Real Estate Investors. http://www.marei.org/

I believe they have a meeting tonight, actually. I can't go because of a conflict.  I haven't been able to attend this group yet, but am looking forward to it. I'm planning to attend their January meeting. It is a membership organization, but you can attend your first meeting for free.

Way to go on making it through your first year! Your post has made me both scared and inspired at the prospect of leaving my W2 someday. It's good to hear real stories about how hard it can be. Thanks for sharing.

Welcome @Rick Novotny! I live in Olathe as well. My husband and I have a couple duplexes and are looking to invest more. Also hope to go full time eventually. Maybe I will see you at a meet up soon. I haven't been to MAREI or KCIG yet but plan to after the first of the year.

Hi @Lalo Arenas!

House hacking is a great idea. I wish I would have done that, but I wasn't thinking like an investor when my husband and I bought our first home.

We own a couple duplexes so don't hesitate to reach out with landlord questions. We are newbies compared to a lot of the people on BP, but if I can help I'm more than willing.

Kansas City area -

I am looking for referrals for lawyers who can help with REI business formation and review of rental contracts. Also looking for CPAs who can advise on best way to manage my business from a tax perspective now and where I hope to take it in the future.

Thanks in advance for any help!

My husband and I own two duplexes and are learning how to be landlords. Soon, we want to try our first flip. Initially, we were considering real estate investing as a way to build our retirement. We still hope for that, but also want to ramp up and find a way to live off the proceeds from our investments sooner. If we can do this and have more flexibility to spend time with our children than our corporate jobs allow for, we’ll be happy campers. I currently commute from Olathe to downtown everyday, so eliminating that from my life for good will also be a plus!

BiggerPockets has been an excellent resource. Love the podcast. When I started learning more about flipping and land-lording, I was pleasantly surprised to find how many people are willing to share advice and be part of a community.

I look forward to networking and meeting other investors, especially in Kansas City.
