Hello all!
First and foremost, I'd like to say that I am super stoked to be a part of the Bigger Pockets community! I was bitten by the Real Estate bug awhile ago and after listening to the podcast, I am finally trying to take the steps to hopefully turn this dream into a reality. That being said, I am just not entirely sure where to begin asides from learning as much as I can - which is why I am here!
A little about about myself:
I am a single father working a full time job here in Nashville, TN in which I split rent with a couple roommates. None of us own the home, we just pay the rental company. As far as my education is concerned, I have a BA in Theatrical Studies with a minor in business. (I know what most people are thinking, not the most ideal degree to hold when getting into this business, but alas here we are haha) I am eagerly trying to break free from the whole "living paycheck to paycheck working for the man" type of lifestyle. But, one must do what one must do to make ends meet for now!
As far as my knowledge is concerned when it comes to the Real Estate industry, I can humbly say that I practically know nothing about it. I have no Real Estate credentials or portfolio of any sort. Just a drive and passion for success in the industry. Now of course I have heard some of terms and lingo being thrown around by friends, family, and now the podcast, but I still wouldn't even attempt to engage in any of these forum posts due to my lack of knowledge. However, the podcast has somewhat reassured me that I am not alone.
So where does one begin if the ultimate goal is to become a financially free investor? Is it worth taking the time to get my Real Estate license, getting affiliated with a brokerage, and live that career out enough to eventually start investing? A friend recommended "The CE Shop" as a site I could use to obtain the course work. If that's the case, is that a well-known and credited channel to use for that education? Do I start reading "Rich Dad Poor Dad" which seems to be a popular book in this business? Is today's market and interest rates worth me utilizing an FHA loan for what some people have referred to as "house hacking" and beginning an investor path that way?
I completely understand that this industry is not a get rich quick type of career. It takes time, hard work, passion, and dedication - all of which I already possess and use in my everyday life. I just don't want to take a step in any direction without having an understanding of the principles first. At the end of the day, I am dedicated to providing a wonderful life for my kiddo and I hope that this career might be that resource. I just want to learn what the right path is to obtaining that goal - if there even is an appropriate path.
I hope this is enough insight to somewhat gauge where I am with Real Estate. Of course, I would love any and all advice that is able to be shared! Even if there are some local newbies or even well experienced individuals who may share similar inquires.
Thank you all for taking the time to read my post! I look forward to whatever opportunities this may cultivate.
Best Regards,
Christopher Rodriguez.
