Kennith,

Im in the same boat as you in a sense. Im currently working a full time job in I.T. I live in Toronto not too far from you. I can see that you are very eager to jump into REI. I realized about last year that all I wanted to do was invest in real estate as well. I have no interest in working a job for a boss who can tell me when and what i can and cant do. Im dont think working this job is best for my goal of becoming a successful full time investor. I took a course and signed up for a really expensive mentor-ship program(A scam GURU course - did still learn a lot but not worth the price tag imo). A year later and i haven't made any real money yet but I have learned a lot!

Just curious, are you planning on learning how to invest in Canadian RE or in the USA?

Also If you want to connect I would love to learn more about your plans. Maybe go for a coffee and talk investing? Im looking for like minded motivated people to team up with.

Thanks for the advice. @Michael Boyer. I consider myself to be pretty handy. Im no expert but I have done my fair share of contracting work. I know the basics in carpentry, plumbing, electrical and foundations. I would love to find a contractor to work for, but one who is also an investor that renovates his own investments. This way I can learn more about acquisitions and the whole show from start to end. The only issue is I currently live here in Canada. and Ive been learning about investing in the US as opposed to my local market for many reasons. Maybe I should move to the US to really get my hands dirty.

Hi All,

Im currently working an IT support gig here in Toronto ON and to be honest Im not sure if I like the idea of working here. This job taking up a lot of my time which i would rather be using to get me towards my goal of financial freedom of which real estate investing is my vehicle of choice! I got the great idea ( off of another BP'er) to get a job in the real estate investing space. So I can earn while I learn( Only want to work there untill my investments can pay me enough to quit) and further propel myself deep into the world of real estate investing.

What do you all think and which type of job would make sense. Some options are working for a PM company, working for a contractor who is an investor, an Agent (no so easy to jump into and kind of a longer term thing) ...

Hi all. Ive been learning about RE through books, podcasts, anything I can get my hand on. Also stupidly enough fell into a trap of a guru who hasn't helped me close a deal in a whole year after a lot of money. As for me I have held up my bargain. I'm studying my *** off. Taking action, I am dedicated to this and I know I have the means to be successful in this business. All I need now is a little guidance from a successful investor ( not a scammer wannabe mentor like I currently have that just cares about taking money from a young new investor and preying on their incompetence ) also I think I should focus on my local area opposed to the USA

Hello BP , in your opinion as a successful investor would it be harder to start investing in the US when I'm from Toronto, Canada? Im in a mentorship program that i paid a lot of money 40k US. they have been teaching me to invest in america as a foreign investor? A lot of posts i see on BP of newbies asking what market to invest in and most people say the one you can drive too. Am I at a disadvantage? My mentor uses agents and pm companies to help do a basic DD after its under contract and using people on the ground that we build as part of our "team" to help up with those tasks.
