So I've been researching, reading books, and listening to bigger pockets podcasts nonstop. I just got out of high school and throughout the last ten years I have been saving up money to invest in real estate. I have been looking with a awesome investor/realtor the past two months for a multifamily property that I could brrrr and have got in contract with a couple but neither investment properties panned out. Lately though normally the older generation 50 and above have been very negative about investing in real estate because of the future market crash that they say is "very soon". Even a financial advisor told me to stay out of real estate. All of this negativity pushes me to stay out of REI but I feel that if the property is a very good deal then you can just rent through the crash because there will always be renters and hold on to the property until the market gets back to normal. Am I wrong or is this a bad time for someone like me to start in REI? Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

@Whitney Thanks for the response! Are there many renters in those areas?

I’m looking into renting outside of Columbus, Ohio. My main focus has been on the city because I figured that it would be hard to find tenants outside of the city. My first property I would like to house hack and I would preferably like to be in the country. Are there many people looking to rent outside of Columbus like in marysville/ Delaware/ plain city area. Are duplexes in the country worth looking at?

Thanks ahead for the feedback!

@Remington Lyman Thanks so much for your response but how would you recommend paying for my first multi family.  Would you recommend a conventional loan or fha? Or maybe something else? Thanks

Hey all, my name is Charlie Scheiderer and I am a 19 year old electrician apprentice in Columbus, Ohio.  On the side I farm part of my family farm as well.  I read Rich Dad Poor Dad several years ago and since then I have been brainstorming ideas on how to build wealth.  So to start my journey I have been building up capital to start investing in real estate.  I have read a couple books from bigger pockets and listened to tons of podcasts.  To start my portfolio i am looking into house hacking where I plan on using the brrrr strategy and trying to find a multi family home in columbus, Ohio within the next few months.  I then want to keep repeating that process and gain rental properties.  Also, after a couple deals I would like to branch out and start doing a couple flips a year.  I feel that with working with my hands and my electrical background I can get a good chunk of the rehabbing done on my own.  If you all could give me some tips, or ideas, or things you would have done if you were to restart at 19 I would really appreciate all feedback. Thanks so much! I am also looking for some contacts within the area that I can bounce my ideas off of as well or help out if they need some help.
