@Eric H — thanks for sharing. Do you feel like this was a financial literacy issue or simply debt that was unavoidable given the circumstances?

@Steve Bracero — what was the catalyst that caused you to start investing?

@David Hanson — wow, thank you for all of these detailed tips!

@Paul Allen — this is another good one. How do you currently deal with these situations?

I purchase gift cards at krogers for everything. I always have $1 off of gas. You can get 35 gallons so me and the wife run the cars low and fill up at the same time. You can actually pull the cars up close on opposite sides of the pump and the hose will reach. So, anyways I always have gift cards for places we eat, eBay, guitar center( I take lessons and pay with gift cards), ticket master, lowes and Home Depot. We save $35 every time we fill up our cars.

Now the bills I hate is the cable bill and the cell phone bill. I threaten to cancel the cable all the time. If it wasn't for my wife and daughter it would already be gone.

@Kevin Allen — wow these sound like some clever strategies. How did you find out about all of these?

Thank you everyone for your responses!

What are your biggest pain points with personal finance? What problems do you have that you wish someone would solve?

Some of mine are:
- Splitting recurring expenses with roommates (e.g. rent, utilities, internet, etc.)
- Figuring out how to invest my money and how much to save
- Figuring out what to put into retirement savings (e.g. 401k)
- Setting up a budget and adhering to it
