@Joe Barclay thanks for sharing your story, it's crazy how much prices have increased in areas like Bedstuy. Hope deal works out for you. Let me know what happens.

thanks @Darren Sager that's true, I'm trying to search near where I am but unless I look elsewhere I'm going to be looking forever. Are there any areas outside the boroughs that you would recommend?

alright so guess it's unanimous that CL is a bad idea for getting a apprenticeship, won't waste my time then...thanks everyone

I'm actually going to a REI club meeting that I found on Meetup.com tomorrow so hoping that ends up being productive and not just someone pitching me.

Haha it sounds like a pretty bad idea when you put it that way.

I guess was thinking about it as throwing a wide net and seeing what you catch wasn't really expecting too much from it.

Thanks for recommending your article. Just read it and you make a lot of great points, especially about following-up.

thanks for the reply @Darren Sager .. I haven't really researched anything outside of the boroughs yet; I think I'll take your advice and broaden my search.

I mainly have being looking at places like Astoria, Harlem and Bushwick that still have a lot of growth potential in my opinion. I would love to get a duplex like a lot of BP members have done and rent out the other unit but even in these areas the prices are in the high 6 figures. I work in the Midtown Manhattan so the duplex strategy wouldn't be practical for anything outside the boroughs

I am a new investor working full-time and really want to work part-time for a local real-estate investor doing administrative work for their business. My main goal being to gain hands-on experience while I save for a down payment on my first property.

I was thinking about posting something on Craigslist in the seeking jobs section. Not sure if CL is the best route but thinking that it couldn't hurt.

Has anyone gone this route to find a mentor/REI job before? If so was it successful or did you just get a bunch of scams/spam?

I know that New York City is an outrageously expensive city for REI but was curious if anyone in the forum has done successful deals in the city?

I currently rent in NYC and want to start my investing in other markets because of the high cost of investment here but I hope to one day be able to have an NYC property in my portfolio and would love to hear from someone that has/had one and how the experience was.

Thanks
