@Dmitriy Fomichenko thanks for the link for the local area! Definitely going to look into that as well

@Justin B. thanks for the welcome! Good to know of another local RE investor...I'm sure I'll have some (dumb) questions eventually about REI in the area since I'm really in the learning stage...would you mind if I reached out?

@Jamal Atwell thanks and nice man! Yeah I'm in Courthouse currently...good to see another person my age too...maybe I'll catch you at a REIA meeting or something!

@Joe Fairless thanks for the kind words! And that's actually a great idea too, definitely gonna look into that since I've got some time...figured it may be easier to find duplexes but I'll keep that in mind as well

@Account Closed whoa thanks for all of the links Paul! I actually found the podcast earlier and listened to one of the more recent interviews...TONS of great advice was presented and I'll definitely look into those books you suggested too. Ya know I hadn't thought about student housing either but with U-Maryland not too far that could be a nice way to go eventually...know far too well the higher amounts they charge for students living off campus haha

Hey everyone! My name is Cedric Brown and I'm a recent college grad (23 yo) living in the DC area (Arlington, VA), looking to move to Silver Spring next year. I currently work as an engineer with the FDA but after a discussion with one of my friends, I have decided to try and become more knowledgeable about REI and it seems like a great tool to provide supplemental income over the long run.

I'm coming from literally ground zero, my only "experience" (if you can even call it that) being watching a few TV shows where they flip or repair houses haha. So I apologize in advance if I end up asking some really basic questions from time to time, but hey we all gotta start somewhere I guess.

I'd say my initial goal would be to purchase a multifamily duplex (or maybe triplex) within the next couple of years where I could renovate and rent out the other unit(s) for a decent amount; while living in one of them myself. From what I've read so far this seems like a decent way to start out on this REI journey but I'm still a ways off from achieving that goal given that I've only been working for about a year now...I'm very much still in the beginning stages but thought I'd jump in after I came across the site.

Thanks in advance for anyone checking in, and hopefully I can do my best to learn and contribute to this community in any way that I can, feel like I've got a lot of reading to do though first. Looking forward to learning a lot and sharing even more here!

Best,

Cedric
