Newbie living in the DC Metro Area

Hey everyone! My name is Cedric Brown and I'm a recent college grad (23 yo) living in the DC area (Arlington, VA), looking to move to Silver Spring next year. I currently work as an engineer with the FDA but after a discussion with one of my friends, I have decided to try and become more knowledgeable about REI and it seems like a great tool to provide supplemental income over the long run.

I'm coming from literally ground zero, my only "experience" (if you can even call it that) being watching a few TV shows where they flip or repair houses haha. So I apologize in advance if I end up asking some really basic questions from time to time, but hey we all gotta start somewhere I guess.

I'd say my initial goal would be to purchase a multifamily duplex (or maybe triplex) within the next couple of years where I could renovate and rent out the other unit(s) for a decent amount; while living in one of them myself. From what I've read so far this seems like a decent way to start out on this REI journey but I'm still a ways off from achieving that goal given that I've only been working for about a year now...I'm very much still in the beginning stages but thought I'd jump in after I came across the site.

Thanks in advance for anyone checking in, and hopefully I can do my best to learn and contribute to this community in any way that I can, feel like I've got a lot of reading to do though first. Looking forward to learning a lot and sharing even more here!

Best,

Cedric
