Post: Finding a property owner

I am having trouble finding a property owner. It is a duplex in South Carolina. The tax office says that it was foreclosed on in 2015 and Bank of America owns it. I go over to their webpage to look at their foreclosures. Its not listed. I filled out the online contact us form and a few hours later a foreclosure specialist called me. I give them the address and they tell me that they do not own the property. I then went to the office of deeds and got the same answer as from the tax office. Bank of America owns it. I drove back by the property to see if I can find anything that will lead me in the right direction. There were a few winterization papers on the windows. I called the phone numbers on those papers. This company points me to Mr Cooper. I called the Mr Cooper company and they claim that they do not own nor have any relation to the property. Back to the tax office. I got the address to where they send the tax bill. It is Bank of America in Simi Valley California. I contact customer support and they too claim that they do now own the property. I am lost as to what to do. Taxes are paid up to date so someone owns it, right?

Hey Dylan! I am new to investing too. I do live in Sumter, but I am in Columbia often. Like Andrew said, all of Columbia has its ups and downs. I would suggest taking a trip to go look at it before purchasing. There are nice properties in bad neighborhoods and there are bad properties in good neighborhoods. Definitely do your research before buying and do not buy what you do not understand.

The property looks great! Wish I could come. Do you plan to do any more tours?
