I bought my first triplex at 20 years old! I managed to save up $25,000 over 2 years working at a minimum wage job. I knew that I wanted to invest in rental property. My parents agreed to cosign with me so that I would qualify for an FHA loan. I couldn't be happier! The story is pretty motivating to say the least.
Every year, our family and friends go to Parker, AZ for boating and camping. In the summer of 2020, one of our family friends had asked me what I wanted to do for a career. I told her that I wanted to become a Real Estate investor. I wanted to get to a point where I could own a bunch of Real Estate and live off it's passive income. When I told her this she looked at me, scoffed, and said, "Oh don't we all". For some reason, the way that she laughed and said it made me absolutely furious!!! From that point on I told myself, the next time I see that woman I will own some Real Estate. Fast forward a year from that point and we're back on our yearly Parker trip. I woke up early in the morning to start getting ready for our morning wakeboard runs. And as I'm leaving the house to get in the car I get a phone call. I can read the caller and it says in big letters TITLE SECURITY. I answered the phone and heard the magic words, "Congratulations! We recorded!" Exactly one year from the time I was laughed at for my goals to now, I had bought an investment property. Unfortunately, the family friend who laughed at me the previous year wasn't at the river this year. But, the property wasn't for her in the first place. This story reminds me of two main lessons that I'd like to share with you:
1. Dream big and tell people about them! You may never know how much someone's doubt may push you to become better. Use their doubt as fuel to make you achieve your goals even quicker!
2. Know your why! When I accomplished my goal, a part of me wanted to shove it in her face that I did it. But the reality is, she wasn't there for me to tell her and she didn't care in the first place. Your why needs to be bigger than proving a point to a family friend. Your why needs to be bigger than yourself. Since then, my why has turned from a selfish goal into a selfless goal. I want to be able to achieve financial freedom for my family. It has never been about me.
