Hi all -

Looking for some insight on the estimated costs of gutting a traditional Chicago two-flat.  It's about 2600 feet, each 3 bedroom/1 bath units.  Will need new HVAC, new electric, new plumbing, new walls/configuration, and possibly dig out to create duplex down (two-level unit) or 3rd legal unit.  Just trying to get a rough idea on costs, either cost per SF or estimated unit reno.  We'd live in one unit and rent out the remaining unit(s).

Thanks all - appreciated the feedback.  I've had a similar line of thinking regarding the inspection but wanted to get some additional opinions.

Hi all -

I'm purchasing a condo in a vacation town and plan on doing weekly and short-term rentals of the condo.  I have not purchased a condo before and not sure if it's worth the expense of doing a home inspection for a condo.  I know there is a lot of value in having an inspection done with a free-standing home/structure as this takes into account foundation, structural, etc.  Inspections for condos are going to be mostly visual inspections for water damage, checking on plumbing and water fixtures, appliances, etc as most condo associations covers the exterior, foundation, and structural issues.  Is this true and is it worth doing the inspection?

Thanks
