@Mike Bean thank you for your support Mike! I’m starting to consider the outskirts of the city just because of the exorbitant prices. Might be a silly question but, what would you say is the closest area just outside the city that would be less expensive? I would do Framingham or Newton but I would like to be a little closer for a commute since I’ll be working in South Boston while going to school in the South End. That alone will be a bit of a commute.

Thanks for the in depth response Charlie. I have heard the VA appraisal process can be very stringent as you mentioned, with that in mind, when working with someone using a VA loan is there certain home types, year built, face value quality, or estimated rehab price that tells you from the start this house isn't even worth taking a look at?

I have heard that about Roxbury lately, as I read in a study that some rate Boston as the fastest gentrifying city in the nation. Have you noticed that to actually be a benefit in some areas of Roxbury where prices don't reflect gentrification, while the crime isn't terrible?

I definitely will get with a Realtor who knows what they're doing.

Thanks for the help Charlie!

Thanks Matthew! Is there any certain blueprint you follow that you'd recommend, or method you developed yourself, as far as for the process of buying the units, to creating cashflow, to eventually reselling?

Hi Everyone,

I've been lurking on here for awhile and figured it would be a good time to make an intro post. I just got off a deployment in the military and now with the capital I have and the VA home loan available to me, I feel confident I am ready to make my first REI. I'm currently going through the VA home loan pre approval stage, but once that is finished I'll be ready to hit the ground running searching for multifamily properties, 3-4 units, in Boston. Particularly the Dorchester to Roxbury Area, I'll be living in one of the units and would like the place to be somewhat close to where I'm going to school.

Would love to hear from anyone that has used the VA home loan before as well as anyone that has invested in multifamilies in Boston, that would be willing to share any Do's and Don'ts! Thank you in advance and I'm excited to be an active participant of this community!
