No.  We did receive some opposition.  But we addressed most concerns and now it goes to the Senate.

A big thank you to all who have helped moved this legislation along.   It passed 54-14 just now in the House.  On to the Senate.  By tomorrow we should know what committee it will be assigned to.  Brian

For anyone who is interested, I met with Senator Brent Hill who is the Senate Pro Tem, and Rep Doug Ricks (R-Rexburg) this morning at a town hall.  Rep Ricks assured me that HB 461 will be voted on Monday (last day to be heard there to make it to the Senate for most bills) and Senator Hill said it would likely go to Judicial (Senator Lodge is Chair) or State Affairs (Senator Lakey is Chair).  We should be able to get a hearing in either committee.... fingers crossed for Monday's House vote.  Brian

The landlord bill I have been posting about has gotten a little opposition and is being delayed, but should be heard Monday by the entire Idaho House and voted on.

If you want to help you would send a group email to the entire membership (you can cut and paste the email addresses below) into your email "to" field and in the subject line put something like "Please Vote Yes on HB 461- Landlord Eviction" and then in the body request support and say you are an Idaho Landlord.

We made a new video to address the concerns of those who oppose our bill.  There were handicap groups that felt 3 days was not enough to get out.  We explained how they could get more time.  Law enforcement was concerned they might have more responsibility, it is less.  Perhaps one concern is having a tenant have 72 hours to vacate.  In many parts in Idaho it takes much longer.  It took me 8 weeks to get a guy out after an eviction because my county required a moving company to facilitate the move out.  Grrrr.  Some landlords think it is a 1 day process... it could be, but not in Idaho Falls.

For your email click on this link and you will have to copy and paste the 70 email addresses (under the first section, House Members), then paste the addresses into your one email. https://docs.google.com/docume...

the bill is scheduled to be heard and voted on by the house tomorrow.  It should easily pass tomorrow, then start all over in the Senate.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their support for HB 391.  That is the landlord eviction bill that passed committee Friday.  Next it will be voted on in the Idaho House, probably end of this week, then on to the Idaho Senate.   We did have some opposition testimony but it was based on some misunderstandings.  I will post again when it will be in heard in the senate committee.  I really think this will be law this year.  Thanks again if you emailed the committee.

Thanks Don,  Yes tomorrow 18 people will hear our bill, 18 people are on the committee. If you reach out to just some that's great, if anybody reaches out to all 18 that's even better.

Yes sir  the video in the first post, linked in the first post, explains the text of HB 461.  Thanks for posting,

@Brian Stutzman I don’t know if I was looking in the wrong spot or what, could you send me (or reply to this) with a list of their emails. I will send out a few emails to them in support of this bill!

Thank you!  be sure to watch the video in the link above that explains our bill.  This forum wont allow me to put them here for some reason, so here is a link to the committee, which has all the email addresses you can cut and paste.

Here is the committee member's emails.... please markdown to email after Monday's session so Monday night or Tuesday. Be sure to reference HB 461 in the subject line of your email... something like "Please vote YES on HB 461" Here are their email addresses. Thank you. https://legislature.idaho.gov/sessioninfo/2020/standingcommittees/HJUD/

Dear Fellow Landlord, (please share)
After 18 months of hard work, our landlord eviction bill is going to be heard, debated, and voted on in Boise next week and YOUR HELP IS NEEDED. This is a bill that says that if a judge issues an eviction order, the tenant must move out or the landlord can directly remove their items after 72 hours. Right now, there is no Idaho code on this matter and each county has enacted its own policies, some cumbersome and expensive. See this video for more information: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYdipSO3UTw&feature=youtu.be
The hearing for the bill (HB 461) will be Wednesday, February 19th, at 130 pm in Room EW 42 of the state capital in Boise. The bill will be presented by Representative Doug Ricks and then public testimony of about 2 minutes per person
Sadly, there is some opposition to this bill by low-income housing advocates and disability rights people who don't really understand this bill only affects people who have been ordered out by a judge.
I need your help.
First, if you can come to Boise and testify, please do. There is free parking in a special lot on the east side of the capital. Email for a few talking points, knowing you only get 2 minutes.
Second, if you can not come, please email the committee members AFTER Monday the 17th, as they get a ton of emails. Please urge them to support HB 461. If they hear from 20-30 different people they will take note, so please forward this email to any landlords you know.

If we pass the committee, it should pass the entire house the following week, then we will start over in the state senate about a week or two after that. Thank you.--
