Landlord eviction bill being heard on 2-19-2020 can you help?
Dear Fellow Landlord, (please share)
After 18 months of hard work, our landlord eviction bill is going to be heard, debated, and voted on in Boise next week and YOUR HELP IS NEEDED. This is a bill that says that if a judge issues an eviction order, the tenant must move out or the landlord can directly remove their items after 72 hours. Right now, there is no Idaho code on this matter and each county has enacted its own policies, some cumbersome and expensive. See this video for more information: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYdipSO3UTw&feature=youtu.be
The hearing for the bill (HB 461) will be Wednesday, February 19th, at 130 pm in Room EW 42 of the state capital in Boise. The bill will be presented by Representative Doug Ricks and then public testimony of about 2 minutes per person
Sadly, there is some opposition to this bill by low-income housing advocates and disability rights people who don't really understand this bill only affects people who have been ordered out by a judge.
I need your help.
First, if you can come to Boise and testify, please do. There is free parking in a special lot on the east side of the capital. Email for a few talking points, knowing you only get 2 minutes.
Second, if you can not come, please email the committee members AFTER Monday the 17th, as they get a ton of emails. Please urge them to support HB 461. If they hear from 20-30 different people they will take note, so please forward this email to any landlords you know.
Here is the committee member's emails.... please markdown to email after Monday's session so Monday night or Tuesday. Be sure to reference HB 461 in the subject line of your email... something like "Please vote YES on HB 461" Here are their email addresses. Thank you. https://legislature.idaho.gov/sessioninfo/2020/standingcommittees/HJUD/
If we pass the committee, it should pass the entire house the following week, then we will start over in the state senate about a week or two after that. Thank you.--
