@David L. Rhoiney I am also headed to Hampton Roads with a similar strategy in mind. Small multi-family is the goal. Norfolk and Portsmouth seem to have the most available, however Hampton seems to throw a couple every now and then. I have been focusing on Norfolk myself.

Alex,

So you feel that flood zones are just a no go for investments? Or do you have a certain way you approach flood zone investments?

Nob and tube wiring I have heard about so I have already set a 1950s and above limit, however that is negotiable if the house has proof of upgrades.

Hello Bigger Pockets,

I am coming from Alaska down to Virgina, and plan on jumping into a house hacking opportunity in Norfolk Va. Housing in Virginia is much different than Alaska as you might imagine. I am reaching out to find some information on things to look for. The average age of the homes I see for sale is higher than I am used to. I know asbestos is a thing in older homes, as well, electrical problems can be difficult to deal with. Also Norfolk is a flood zone and I have never experienced investing in an area like that. A/C unit inspections, Roofs being installed over old ones.

Any information of shared experiences from you all would be great,

Thanks!

Brent

I decided to get my own home inspection. A small bullet to bite in the long run.

Thank you again to everyone's input.

Wow, This is why I love this site. You all are so quick to jump in with good advise. I guess I will probably get another inspection done. The problem I have is that this is my first one so I don't have a "trusted" home inspector that I use. I guess I will have to do my research and as always err on the side of caution when making this decision.

@Ronald Laurion - Thanks for the reference. I will give her a call in the morning and see what she has to say.

Thank you all for the advise.

Hello BP,

We just recently got an offer accepted on a house here in Anchorage, Alaska. The selling agent was quick and forthcoming with a previously completed home inspection from just 13 days prior. The way I figure is I have two options.

1. Take that inspection and use it for my own and save myself 700 dollars.

2. Re-accomplish a new inspection so to rule out any wrong doing.

Taking option 1 I figure I will research the company and make sure everything is on the up and up.

I know this is ultimately a personal decision however I trust what this community has to say so your advise would be much appreciated.

Thank you very much!

Brent

Thank you both for the welcome. Chris, thank you for the resources. I will look into those. I unfortunately do not have a contractor for you. The one guy I was close with has moved away sadly.

Hello everyone,

My wife and I are new to real estate investing, and are very excited about jumping into the forums. We are currently looking at small multi-family, single family, and townhouses in Anchorage Alaska. Should be moving within the next 2 - 3 years and want to have an established property rented by that time. I would love to get up with someone around Anchorage for a meet up or even organize a BP meet up locally.

Hello,

My wife and I are very interested in this event. I know it has already passed, but what are the chances of running it again or something similar in the future?
