Post: Old fuel oil tank inside fixer upper

Hey everyone! I am currently in the middle of my first fixer upper. We have chosen to go all electric as it’s a small house. There is an old fuel oil tank that’s half full in the basement. I’d like to build a smoker out of the tank. Anyone know the best way for me to dispose of the old oil. I’d imagine it’s still good and I’d rather not see it go to waste if someone can heat their house with it.

@Chris Battaglia

I am looking to start investing in auburn myself. I’m very fresh to investing, but I’m looking to get into my first property within the next couple of months. If there is anyway I can help you out and learn in the process I’m your guy!

@Ronald Starusnak Thanks for the input! I heard there is a REI club that meets in Syracuse. I think I'll start there. Might be a good way for me to get out and meet some people in the business and hear more about what's going on right now.

@Frank Procopio thanks for reaching out! Maybe I can buy you lunch sometime and pick your brain. I’m pretty fresh in this RE world and I’d like to make myself useful to someone who’s actually in the business.

@Robin Casper -No kidding I’m surprised someone on here is familiar with the area. I am looking to get into rentals somewhere around here. I’d like to start with a duplex to get my feet wet in the business.

@Jon Crosby Thank you for your input! My idea behind the personal money was to try to get a better deal by offering cash.

Hi BP community, I am new to the real estate investing world. Currently in the research stage and looking to buy my first property this year. I’d like to get myself into a duplex here in central NY and house hack for a year. My question is on how to buy. I have a personal money lender that would like to help me, however I’m not sure if I should go that rout and refi after to get a better deal or if I should just finance my first property. Any feedback would be much appreciated!
