When I moved to CT I got some weird responses when I used my cell phone that has a 260 (Indiana) area code.  In fact one GC said he wouldn't work with me as he thought I was an out of state investor.  Interestingly, since I've gotten my google voice number with an 860 area code I've noticed that in general I get a much better local response rate when I call to inquire about various services related to my real estate business.  I think that it could affect calls associated with a direct mail marketing campaign as well.  That's my slightly better than empirical evidence that you should go with 860.

Matt's right.

When I began looking for an agent in SE CT it was immediately clear that some of the agents were excited and positive about the area we're living in.  You want to work with someone who advocates the area and believes in what you're doing.  The agent you're describing will be constantly bridling you and holding you back.  A voice of reason is always great to have, but not to someone who'll so seriously discourage you from ever getting started.  Many investors across the state of CT are having success....today!

Thanks @Edward Sitver, I'll do the same.  Right now I've got three PM's on my list that I'm following up with: Real Property Management, IMT Realty and PD Properties.  I'm going to be meeting with all of them and I'll keep you in the loop once I'm done if you'd like.  Are you flipping a house or just getting it rent ready?

@Edward Sitver, I'm doing the exact same thing right now: compiling my list of contractors and property mangers.  If I settle on anyone in particular I'll keep you in the loop.  If you could do the same I'd appreciate it.  Are you still in CO?

@Michael G., did you ever get any recommendations or settle on a property manager?  I'm beginning my search now.  Thanks!

Hi everyone! I am prepping to rent out my SFR in about a year and I'm putting together an interview list of prospective property management companies that will provide services in Mystic, CT (near Groton and New London). Who are you all using?? Any responses are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

@Jay Stevens, welcome to BP!  Do you have any region preferences?

@Morgan Smith, welcome to the community!  I'm originally from Michigan and I spent 10 years in Novi, MI.  While I'm in CT right now I'll eventually be back in Michigan.  Let me know if you need anything.

Have you put together your business plan yet?
