Hi all: I came across a deal in my area that seemed ideal for a flip. The house in question needs a total rehab, but was priced significantly under comparable homes in the neighborhood. It was listed for around 200k and similar homes are 300-400k. It sits on half an acre, which is a pretty nice size given the area. But the property taxes on this home are enormous and approach 20k. Can anyone explain why or how the taxes can be 10% of the home's sale price? Anyone experience anything similar and have any advice? Thanks!

Hi all:

I was wondering if someone could share their experience buying via a county home auction.  Live on the courthouse steps.  What are some dos and don'ts?  How much are you really able to inspect a property before it goes up?  Is this a feasible way to get a deal? Are these events typically oversaturated with buyers looking for a cheap deal?

Thanks

Can anyone point me to some good advice and information on landlording in a high cost of living area?  Specifically, I'm talking about single family homes in the 300-400k range on Long Island, NY.  Let me know if (and what) more information would be helpful to clarify the situation.
