@Nate Estelle I believe many people here on BiggerPockets credit Rich Dad Poor Dad for getting them started in Real Estate investing.

Yes. ABCs of Real Estate Investing is a great book as well. Pretty much every book in the Rich Dad Poor Dad series will provide very valuable information.

Welcome @Nate Estelle! I am from Fort Wayne and currently invest and live in Fishers right outside of Indianapolis (one property, but working on a second in Indianapolis!)

There are many meetups in Indy, but the many ones are INREIA and CIREA. CIREA costs about $160 annually, but allows for a handful of sub-workshops as well so it is worth in the cost in my opinion. On Meetup.com you can find many more smaller meet ups, which I have found a lot of good information as these meet ups, so don't count them out. If you want to meet up when your in town feel free to PM me. Good luck with your investing!

@Sammie Renna RPM Indianapolis Edge has been fantastic for me as a property management company; however, I believe they only do rentals over $800/mo.

In regards to a trust worthy real estate agent, I have a guy I have used a couple of times and have known for over 10 years. If you're interested, PM and I will give you his contact information. Phenomenal guy and real estate agent.

@Elliot Adkins Welcome to Bigger Pockets! I am not familiar with the Columbus Area; however, I do believe there are many Real Estate meet ups in that area. You could locate a lot of these on meetup.com. Meet ups are amazing places to network and begin to culitivate relationships. Those would be the best opportunities to begin conversations with people that could transfer into the shadowing/helping out investors. It is great to have interest in Real Estate this early, so take advantage of all this site has to offer with forums, education tools, blogs, and podcasts.

Post: Home Equity Vs. Home Equity Line Of Credit

@Jeremy Sanders I agree with @Al Wilson with the HELOC you can pull money out of the line of credit to make a purchase and can begin paying down the debt by putting money back into the line of credit. The flexibility that Al is referring to (I believe) is that although you are paying back the loan you can still draw from this account at any time for a purchase in the future. With the Home Equity loan, once you use that loan to make a purchase, you are stuck paying back that loan in its entirety with no additional access to funds.

I personally have a HELOC open right now and the flexibility is great plus its interest only and the mortgage interest is tax deductible.

I hope this helps, but feel free to ask any additional questions!
