Aloha,

Since someone else raised the topic...I have thought a number of times how nice it would be to have "stop following this topic" button. You know, for once the deceased horse has been adequately beaten.

Click the "Following" link underneath the post to stop following it or getting notified about it. I already did that on this topic, and make sure that you turn off the option when replying too.

That only appears at the bottom of the page when posting. If I were to "uncheck" the box right now, without inputting any text, would it not post a "blank" reply if I hit "post reply"? Or would I just uncheck it and "cancel" out, or? Seems to be not very intuitive here. My intent was at some point after I had contributed to a particular discussion, and receiving notifications of new posts, to then stop further notifications for only that thread, with an option at either the top or bottom of the discussion.

Right, that button is at the top of the discussion. Click "Following" to immediately stop getting notifications for a discussion. No reply needed.

 It it doesn't apply to the topic at hand, then it's pretty much just spam. Maybe we could add an "Off Topic" option to that menu.

Quote from @Ben Zimmerman:

There are certainly a few members who could better contribute to the community by focusing on quality over quantity.

However, several people in the thread have mentioned things like the search bar, or how they will help people that first help themselves.  I think this is a poor attitude to take.

BP has a wealth of information for a new investor to absorb, but a fair amount of it is outdated.  I still see people commenting about whether or not the 2% rule still applies.  While the real estate industry is relatively slow moving, it does move, and things like the 2% rule haven't been relevant in many years.  If we are simply telling people to "use the search feature", then we are essentially telling people to be content using old information.

Maybe that information is still relevant, maybe it's not.  If you don't want to be bothered to answer a question that has already been asked 100 times, then simply don't engage and just move on to the next topic.

Thanks for the observation @Ben Zimmerman.

I've been thinking about incorporating search into new forum posts. I.e.: when tying a new forum post, the forums could show results that may answer your question, with the goal being that we don't see the same questions asked over and over again.

But as you observe, answers change over the years, so that may be an unnecessary distraction and I'm not as interested in pursuing it now that you've mentioned it, especially due to the changes that have come to this market in just the last 12-18 months.

Awesome I’ll check this group out!

@Luke Carl

Yes I’m referring to management of other peoples STRs. Just looking to connect and share ideas.

@Andrew Steffens

I remember you mentioning in another thread that you are a fan of StayFi to capture people’s contact info. I’m getting ready to start an email marketing campaign myself to target prior guests. What have you found is the most effective email marketing campaign. Do you send simple periodic emails? How often do you send them?

 We do monthly newsletter style emails through constant contact that not only highlights our rentals and any promos but also things going on in our area

Have you found a way to automate the monthly newsletters? I have tried hiring someone on Fiverr in the past to create some sort of marketing campaign but it involved so much work on my end telling them exactly what to do that it felt like more work on my end!

 No I have an office manager that actually enjoys it and our other department managers pitch in with articles on topics they pick and we approve.  We have had pretty good success writing listing descriptions with ChatGPT, that could probably help write some content for you.

 Do you have some particular prompts you use for this?

Getting pretty sick and tired and annoyed with the top contributors in forums just posting random little answers has nothing to do with answering the posted question or helpful. They do it just to get more activity points or share how more amazing or greater they are than your posted question. Ridiculous, I am starting to call them out every chance I run into them.

But boy oh boy a nice magenta color dislike button would be fun!

Hook it up BP

 Correct Aaron not here to make the problem worse, I also no longer do a courtesy vote anymore for engagements to my posts. And yes, I understand, I also do no interact with empty comments. Once in a blue I do point out kindly to the individual that their comment has zero intensions to the original posts.

Thank you for the function option you mentioned. Good to know. Was what I explain actually falls under "Report Abuse" for the wasted empty comments from others?

What would you need us to word it as when reported?

"Comment does not apply", "comment for self-glorification", or .....?

I appreciate your feedback.
