@Gerard Grigsby
Hello Gerard! Welcome to Bigger Pockets.
I don't often see anyone other than fairly seasoned investors reply to newcomer introductions, so I thought I'd say Hello - from a fellow newbie!
BP is a great place to find everything real estate and the learning is endless. I'm actually looking to get into a house hack here in Maryland myself, I think its an awesome strategy to employ! I wish you luck in your learning and future buying process.

Hope to see you around the forums, don't hesitate to reach out!

This is awesome, congrats! How did the VA loan come into play? I'm looking to use my VA Lon soon, but not sure if it's a solid option in my market.

@Thierno Kouyate

I’ve been a BP member for a few months now and I’ve slowly worked my way up to being sort of a podcast fanatic. On average I listen to at least 1-2 a day at 1.5x speed usually while driving or exercising, walking the dog, etc. My strategy has been to go back to the very beginning of the original BP Real Estate podcast and just try to learn as much as I can. Now I alternate between the really great episodes they’ve been releasing recently (especially on mindset and business strategy!) and older ones that peak my interest.

I do agree with what some others have been saying about the information starting to become repetitive and not always being super actionable. But,

1. I think repetition is a great way to learn and engage in deeper understanding especially when you’re first starting out, and

2. Part of the challenge is to determine how to use the information provided in the podcast/book to take action in your own life.

As I’ve learned more and heard more I have been able to narrow down the type of podcasts I want to hear and what info I want to learn more of. And this cuts back on unwanted repetition.

Listening to podcasts mainly helps keep me motivated and inspired to move toward my real estate investing goals! To each their own, I guess. 🙂

@Nikki Closser

This is such a great read! And an amazing deal. I’m gearing up for my first deal and I have always been highly interested in commercial multi-family. My end goal would be to get into some large multi-family deals. So it’s amazing to see that after a few tries, the small multi family is what ending up working for you!

The advice I often get is to start with house hacking, which would be do-able, but I would love to jump right in to smaller end of commercial properties and scale from there!

Besides your AirBnB experience, did you have any other landlording/management experience prior to this deal? I’m sure six units might feel a bit daunting at first. I plan to work with a property manager for all of my deals, did you find yours before you started looking for any deals in Michigan? I’m still trying to wrap my head around the process of assembling my team. 😅

@Daniel Ard

Thank you and same to you! And that would be great, I'm trying to get a feel for the areas around DC. There's a lot to choose from and I know I need to really narrow down my market.
