You're at a great advantage with all those skills coming out of the AF! I'm sure you're going to make great use of them.

I don't have any real experience with live-n-flips. However, there are a few good neighborhoods near lackland that I've bought in that just needed cosmetic rehab. I'm doing short and long term rental within 3 miles of lackland/medina annex. I bought close to lackland because I didn't want to battle the traffic every day.

Thanks so much for the detailed response. I will absolutely add those to my reading list. I love road biking so I've been riding around my local area every day (10-30miles on aveage) to get a feel for the area. Riding for dollars, if you will. 

I appreciate the bit about getting the junk out of life. I've been immersing myself in research and reading and haven't spent time on my typical distractions.

Hello all! I recently moved to San Antonio and got bit by the rental real estate bug...hard. I've been saving for about 5 years and I'm looking to buy my first rental property, either single family/ small multi-family rental home. Considering house-hacking in a 2/3/4plex. Eventual goal of financial freedom. I bought Brandon's book on rental real estate investing and have listened to it almost 3 times so far, along with Rich Dad Poor Dad. I'm active duty Air Force and hope to use the VA loan to my advantage where applicable. Just getting started here in the forums, I'll be doing a lot of reading in the weeks to come. Glad to be here!
