KP,

Great to hear you will be doing the PanAm route and coming down to Patagonia. I am a realtor in Chile. I live in Santiago, but my partner owns a farm in Osorno (northern Patagonia), so let us know when you are around!

And... well... if you fall in love with Chile and decide to buy an avocado farm, just let me know and I'll help you finding the right one! :)

Anja.

Wes, Dominic,

I am a realtor in Santiago, Chile. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Please feel free to e-mail me ([email protected]) or let me know when you are here and we can meet up. Real Estate in Chile works very different to other countries, so you have to be a little careful.

Hoping to hear from you soon,

Anja.

Hi Dawn,

Great to hear you are considering Chile!

About beach towns that attract expats:

Viña and Valparaiso are probably the most attractive ones. They are both very close to each other - so much that they feel like one city, although they are both very different: Valparaiso is more bohemian and attracts younger people, artists, tourists. Viña is elegant and more expensive.

I know there are some expats living in Algarrobo and others in La Serena.

I'm not sure about Zapallar and Cachagua. I know expats love going for holidays there, but I'm not sure if there are many actually living there.

And finally, Pichilemu and the surrounding area is growing. It is a surfer beach. The first Montessori school was opened there last year. The surrounding areas are growing to (like Matanzas - another surfer beach). And it is relatively close to Santa Cruz and that wine producing region. The whole VI region is actually very interesting - I'd definitely keep an eye on that area.

Anyway, if you would like to talk a little more, please feel free to contact me either via e-mail ([email protected]) or Skype (avdessauer).

And let me know if you when you come to Chile, I would be happy to show you around! :)

Hola Víctor,

Bienvenido!

Mehran,
Thank you for the welcome!
Yes, Chile is very beautiful. I have some pictures of the country on my websit. I find the south particularly attractive and may be moving there sometime in the not-so-far future.
I suppose US citizens do choose Chile due to the changing state of your country... although Chile's stable political and economic situation helps a lot! :)

Jon,
US citizens are particularly interested in centrally located apartments in Santiago, specially the Las Condes area, which is a residential area located right next to the most important financial area in Santiago. Apartments in this particular area are interesting because of their central location and the ease and high price at which they can be rented. Prices for one / two bedroom apartments in this area start at aprox. US$240,000.
Other US citizens prefer retiring in Chile and choose rural areas. These prices can vary a lot depending on where the properties are located (close to Santiago, on the beach, by a lake, the mountains, etc.).
