@Mason Weiss

Yes, definitely share more. It sounds great in theory to house hack, but I do definitely want to remain in nicer communities. What are some things you would recommend for the approach of getting a starter home / town house / condo, living in it while my girlfriend finishes law school, then moving and renting that property long term?

@Scott Reigns

If we spend all our savings on that down payment, would it be too dangerous to rely on no vacancy since well only have my income coming in?

Hello!

My situation currently is I am a 21-year-old senior in mechanical engineering and will be graduating in May. I live with my girlfriend, and she will be starting law school at no expense. I am currently working for a company as an intern but am hoping to land a full-time role come August making 70-80k. We are thinking we will be able to accumulate 50k in savings by August and would like to possibly use that money on a down payment on a home, which we will live in for three years then rent out when she graduates and make extra cash flow off of. After graduation, well use our income as a lawyer and engineer to hopefully get more properties and be able to retire early.  So far, I have just been reading "How to Invest in Real Estate: The Ultimate Beginner's Guide to Getting Started" and trying to figure everything out so I can be prepared. We have both been building our credit score since 18. Looking for feedback and any helpful tips to starting the process. What would you do if you were in my position?
