Hello,

My name is Antony F. Munoz and I am new to Real Estate Investing, and I am currently working on my investment strategy. While doing research I stumbled upon the house hacking strategy and I am wondering if this is a good strategy. If you are from Portland Oregon(where I am currently located), is it possible in the area? I appreciate any and all advice/replies.

Don’t over think having to find A Mentor. Network with as many people as you can and think of it more like making friends with a person or people that have more knowledge than you that you can call for advice once in awhile. Don’t think of it as some formal structure where you will have regularly scheduled meetings that the mentor will impart knowledge on you. If you want that then you may be better off hiring a performance coach that has experience with real estate.

Before and while going to network events make sure you read books and listen to podcasts so you can demonstrate some knowledge yourself. It will be tough to connect meaningfully with someone at a RE meetup if you have no idea what you are talking about.

 Hey Tim Delaney,

I will begin looking for the different meet ups near me. I totally see what you are saying about mentorship, I just need to become friends with as much like minded and successful people as I can. Thank you for the great advice, it is really appreciated.

Hey @Antony Munoz, congrats on getting started in your investing journey!  In order to network with people, you are going to want to have some foundational knowledge, and to do that you should be reading lots of books.  From there, join the Investor Lab group and as many Facebook groups as you can.

I wouldn't look at this as a mentor relationship but more of being a friend.  Just be a friend to someone a few steps ahead of where you are in the niche you want to be and go from there.

Hi Brad Hammond,

Thank you for taking the time to formulate a meaningful response. I couldn't agree more when it comes to educating yourself, I know I have much to learn. I am currently reading one of the BiggerPockets books. What is the Investor Lab Group? I will definitely begin connecting more with Facebook groups. You bring up a great point, that I should look at the relationships I am building as friendships. I really appreciate the advice!

Hey Bryan Martin,

That is a great idea, I need to surround myself with successful people. Thank you for the response.

I would attend local REIAs and this website. Keep talking to more individuals and make your own assessments on who you feel would provide the best value for your real estate business.

Hey, Steven Kontos,

I really appreciate you taking the time to reply to my questions, Thanks for the advice. I will definitely begin doing the things you mentioned.

Congrats to you for your ambition! If you are looking to connect with someone for some guidance or advice, feel free to reach out. I also recommend you read this article I wrote for Bigger Pockets titled How to Invest in Real Estate Before Turning 21. Once you've read it, let me know your thoughts and if you have any questions. I am a high school teacher in Colorado and I am always looking to help young people get started in real estate investing or help in any way I can. Let me know if you want to chat sometime. https://www.biggerpockets.com/

Hello Dan Sheeks,

I really appreciate the kind words, and I would love to take you up on your offer. Where is the best place to reach you? I enjoyed your article, I took notes and it helped me look at things from a perspective I hadn't previously seen. The article really hits on the key pieces that need to be taken into consideration when looking to purchase real estate. It has helped me to better adapt and understand my plan.

You need to identify what kind of real estate investing you want to do. Once that is decided, you should then reach out to those who have succeeded in that type of real estate investing. It'll save you years of making avoidable mistakes and will give you an advantage versus just buying on your own with no guidance or support.

Hey, I really appreciate the advice! I completely agree with you! In time I would love to do/learn all types of real estate investing,(ex: wholesale, flips, rentals, a brrrr, commercial) I just wanna learn as much as I can. Do you have any recommendations on how I could go about finding the people who have succeeded in a particular type of investing? Is Facebook group chats a good source?

As a young real estate investor I have been trying to learn as much as I can. Many of the sources I have learned from, talk about creating a team and one of the members being a mentor. I don’t know many people and am looking to create connections. I live in Portland Oregon, and was wondering if anyone had advice on how to go about finding a mentor or just network with people in general?
