Thanks, Derreck.  I may replace all the clapboard for new engineered siding, but will keep it in mind.

Thanks Ray, Joshua.  that was going to be my next question: would  redoing kitchens and baths be considered one undertaking or three!  Also, I thought sprinklers were only for 4 units or more in Boston, oh, so much to learn!  Thank you guys for all the advice.

Thank you all.  I am just updating kitchens and bathrooms but would like to take out the alum siding and refurnish the cedar clapboard beneath it.  Not sure if I should put both items on the form,  I may need to replace some windows too.

Hello,

I recently purchased a 3-Fam in East Boston.  I wonder if someone can give me advice in securing a work permit to rehab the units with new bathrooms, kitchens, and siding.  I have an architect drafting floor plans.  Can I just simply walk into ISD with these plans, pay fee based on estimate constructions costs, and expect to be given the go ahead?  Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks!
