I'm preparing to buy my first piece of real estate. My intention is to continue owning and renting property. However I'm struggling on deciding on what my first choice should be. Do I want to buy a single family home to fix up and sell in a year or refinance, or do I jump into a duplex or other MFR? I feel like it'd be less risky to get the rental in case I get trapped in home with an upside down mortgage. Thoughts?

I'm on the same boat. New investor and will be buying my first rental OOS. ( California is hard for cash flow ). I'm leaning towards a 4plex in INDY ( class C+ or B ) to start or if I should get first a SFH ...

@Andrey Y. That’s my 2 goals; less taxes ( or no taxes ) and cash flow. I’m a business owner and paid last year over $50k in taxes. I don’t own any rental property at this moment but that’s y I’m here to learn and networking with you guys. Figuring it out what market to start my rentals. I Live in California not a good place to create that cash flow but doing my homework and I want to have that experience pretty soon

i'm still researching the market. I didn't decide yet and that's my concern about turnkeys I see so many complaints its pretty bad. I think the best thing to do now is decided the state to invest and then ask for referrals
