Hello,
I am new to Bigger Pockets and just like everyone else on here I am trying to expand my knowledge on Real Estate Investing. My interest of real estate has just begun as my older brother recently gave me the book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad"... AMAZING book! Definetly made me think twice about what I really wanted to do with my life. Before I read this book my goal in life was to find a good job at a good company and work my way to the top, with hard work and motivation. Well after reading that book I realized that I could be using all that hard work and motivation for my own good, rather than someone elses. So here I am...
Me and my brother have our minds set on getting into the real estate investing world, whether we hit or miss we are determined to give it our all and will not stop... even if we fail initially. We both have been researching what type of real estate investing to get us started by reading books, looking up information online, listening to webinars, watching videos, online forums, and ebooks. Bigger Pockets has been a great contribution to the growth of our knowledge, but there are a few things that I would love to get some input on...
We are actually from California, about 20 miles away from Downtown Los Angeles and from what we have read it is actually a really competitive market out here, but I know it is never impossible to be compete with the best of the best. It is just a matter of how much work you put forth to be a competitor with the rest of the succesful real estate investors.
So a few questions to any and all whom may have advice for us on the start of our real estate investing journey...
1) What is the best start for a newbie?
-Alot of different opinions on wholesaling for newbies, but it is definetly an option we are most interested in for getting started. Along with "subject to" and "lease options"
2) We are planning on creating a website/ company LLC for our real estate business... will this help with marketing?
-I see alot of people who market through bandit signs, cold calling, face to face, mailers, and business cards... Would it be better to have a website so that all of these could lead to for more information? Or is it better to start of with just the simple marketing options?
3) Does anyone know of any seminars in the Los Angeles area that are coming up? Definetly want to learn as much as possible before and avoid just jumping into it without having any knowledge of what to expect...
4) Any body know about renting/student housing?
-This was another start up option for us... however, we decided to maybe get involved with later on, but definetly would not mind gathering information now and learning as much as possible.
5) Finally, any advice or words of encouragement for a 23 year old with dreams of being financially free!!
No need to answer all questions... any input would be much appreciated and helpful!!
Thank you very much!
