Hello,

My husband and I are seeking to connect with a real estate agent in or near Oshkosh WI.  We grew up in the area and intend to begin investing long distance, purchasing duplexes and other small multi-family.  Looking to purchase our first property this spring.  We plan on a buy and hold strategy, with a local property manager to handle the day to day work.  We don't have connections with any real estate agents in the area who are experienced in multi-family and are investors themselves.

If you are an investor with an agent to recommend, I would love the recommendation!  If you are an agent that can provide data about  your experience level with multi-family investments, and are an investor yourself, we would love to chat!  Thanks in advance!

Congratulations on finding your triplex! Will you be looking for tenants, or did the property already have units rented?

Mine is to have the flexibility to work 'part time' or to do lower paying work that I love.  DH and I want more time to travel, volunteer, aid organizations and ministries we love, and we want to have a cash flow that also allows us to give...we love generosity and making a difference.  We both assume we will make money doing something here and there regardless...but having a baseline income from real estate would be a game changer!

The downside I could see is that they may not be spectacular renters, and then you are locked into annoying, needy, or difficult to manage renters for 5 years.  Even solid people can be annoying renters -- poor cleanliness over the course of a year is frustrating, over 5 years it could turn into hoarding, health hazard, or damage to your property.

I will be there tomorrow.  I've never been to the brewery...is there a particular place to meet the group within it Kurt?

@Account Closed  DH is forum speak for "Dear Husband"   :D

@Todd Dexheimer   It's actually supposed to be 'dear husband'....lol.

I am looking forward to checking out the marketplace.  Thanks.

@alina trigub

Thank you, I will check that book out and the meet ups in my area.

@Darron Washington  I hope to jump in as quickly as possible as well!  We are looking at properties and will be speaking with mortgage companies soon to start figuring out exactly how much capital we need on hand.

Hello,

My DH and I are new to the real estate investing space.  I found the Bigger Pockets Money podcast, then Bigger Pockets podcast itself and now I am here in the forums, researching and planning to invest within the next calendar year *fingers crossed*.

We live in Minneapolis MN, but have history in the Fox Valley area of WI.  Prices in Minneapolis for multi-families are pretty high, so we are considering investment properties in the suburbs of Minneapolis, Duluth, Oshkosh WI, Neenah-Menasha WI, and Milwaukee WI currently.  We have an "accidental" rental house in rural Missouri that was originally bought as a primary residence and taught us all about what doesn't make a rental house profitable, so that is the extent of our experience so far.

Specific interests include small apartment buildings (rather than older homes split into units) with 4-8 doors to start with.  We both spend a lot of time doing work with the arts and non-profits on the side and we would someday like to move our focuses to those side pursuits rather than our currents jobs.  Having a baseline income from rentals would provide us the flexibility we are looking for and fits well with my personal interests and temperment.

DH is a network engineer and I have worked in ministry/non profit settings as well as customer service settings.  I paint, write, and hike with our two dogs.  DH is an enthusiastic snowboarder and skateboarder.  Would love to network about good markets in the WI and MN area, about small multi-family buildings, long-distance landlording and property management recommendations when the time comes.

Glad to be here!
