Hi Everyone!

I am a new member of BP and recent graduate. How should I start investing in real estate in Chicago and/or surrounding areas? Does anyone have recommendations for finding attorneys, how to analyze good deals, landlord laws, etc?

Warmly,

AJ

@John Underwood

Hi John!

I am new to the BP community and real estate investing. What type of insurance do you recommend for first time homebuyers? How do you protect your assets?

@Michael Fitts Hi Michael!

What do you recommend for a recent graduate from Chicago? The houses are quite expensive and the only option for me is to house-hack and use a FHA loan. However, I just started working a professional job 7 months ago, so I don't have the 2 years of "work experience". I had a few jobs in college. Does that count?

@Jerome Hildreth

Hi Jerome!

I am also new to real estate investing and I live in Chicago. I definitely think we should find some mentors who can guide us through this process. How do you plan on financing your multifamily? FHA Loan?

Warmly,

AJ

Hi Everyone!

I am also a new user of BP. I want to start investing and real estate and it appears that purchasing a multifamily property in Chicago is the best route. The only option is to house-hack and rent out the other units.

What are the next steps I should take? I am a bit overwhelmed.

I would like to have some guidance or tips and tricks from seasoned investors. Which lenders offer the highest loan amount and lowest interest rate? (FHA lenders) How to find good contractors?

Hi Everyone!

I am new to the BP community and would like to connect with agents, seasoned investors, rental property owners, etc. I am a recent college grad looking to house-hack in Chicago or surrounding areas. Can someone perhaps provide guidance or tips for a new investor?

Warmly,

AJ

@Joseph Konney Hi Joseph!

Thank you so much for putting it into perspective. I was considering obtaining my leasing agent license to become more knowledgeable about all fair housing laws, tenant's rights, and so forth.

How can I check to validate if an agent/realtor owns rental properties themselves? Would it be awkward if I ask to see their real estate portfolio?

Also, thank you for providing those hyperlinks! Super helpful - I am going to sign up for those free CIC workshops!
