Peter,
I think you hit the nail on the head as to why I was confused. So if I were to have a rental advertised as $600 per month, Section 8 tenant says yes to that price, but HUD only kicks in $500 then the contract would be drawn up so that the section 8 tenant pays the $100 difference. No side bar deals but actual written contract. It sounds like that is legit correct? But the unwritten sidebar deal would be illegal?

Thank you.

Atarget, thanks for the reply....what you said is what I was thinking, but what is the discussion about fraud? Wasn't the original question asking if you can charge more in rent than what Section 8 would provide? Again, maybe I'm just misunderstanding the original question...What you indicate is not fraud, so that is why I'm confused...

Thank you.

Now I'm confused....In another recent Section 8 thread, it appears that some landlords are getting most of their rent checks from HUD while maybe a smaller portion of the monthly rent is coming from the tenant... Maybe I'm misunderstanding the original question in this thread.... Can someone help me understand? Thank you.

Mike,

I was browsing the local Section 8 website and I found that there is a form to ask for an increase in rent (after 12 months has passed on the original lease). Since you have some section 8, have you ever completed this form and was granted the increase? Would you ask for an increase which would be typical for the area? Have you ever been denied?

Just curiuos...

Thank you.

Mike,

From your experience do you find that rents paid through Section 8 are about the same as if you rented the house to someone not on section 8?

Can you ask for a certain amount to be paid in rent from Section 8 or do they say this is what we are going to give you, take it or leave it…

Thanks.

The local newspaper in my city publishes the names of people that are requesting a divorce as well as divorces that were settled. It is the same section that publishes the request for marriage license showing the 50 year old guy wanting to marry the 20 year old girl.

Just curious, what is the goal with your letter? To see if they are in need of selling their house? I'm guessing that is what it is about since this is a REI forum...lol
