@Jonathan Klemm I moved into Lakeview earlier this month from New York.

I am looking to house hack somewhere in proximity to the red line on the North Side of the city. Definitely looking for referrals to start speaking with potential agents, lenders, etc. – I'll respond to your PM now!

@Bryan Bokowy I just came across this and I realize this is an old post, but I just moved to Chicago and I am looking to house-hack a multifamily home as my first rental property as well. If you have any advice or references from your experience or any updates since then I would love to connect and talk about it when you are available!

Thank you for the advice @John Warren! I will definitely be exploring the neighborhoods around the area to find some good spots – looking forward to getting started and meeting other investors.

Thank you @Zack Karp! I appreciate the welcome.

Also thank you for the recommendation, I will definitely reach out to Jake.

Those two steps make sense to me – what criteria / specific questions would you advise bringing to the table when connecting with potential LOs and Realtors to decide if they are a good fit and have my best interests in mind?

  • Hi Everyone!
  • My name is Alex and I just moved out to Chicago, IL this month. I have been listening to the Bigger Pockets podcasts for a few years and am now finally looking to get into real estate investing.
  • I am from New York originally. I just graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Chemical Engineering, and I will be working as an Associate Consultant at Bain & Company while I am here in Chicago.
  • Most recently I am reading Craig Curelop’s The House-Hacking Strategy and I would like to get an owner-occupied FHA loan for a small multi-family home somewhere in the Lakeview area of Chicago. I am also open to hearing other suggestions from people with more experience in the Chicago market.
  • I would love to connect virtually or to meet up in person depending on your level of comfort. Please let me know if you are even just open to talking over phone/email in more detail with any advice you have.
  • I am also very interested in personal finance and investing outside of real estate, so I am happy to chat about those topics as well with any other newbies on the forum.
  • Looking forward to speaking with some of you!
