@Sanjeev Advani I'm definitely open to learning a bit more about the Kern County market in comparison to the OC market, but my only concern is starting out with REI in a market far from myself. If I am able to learn more about it then I may be a bit more comfortable but I am mainly looking to find deals more locally first to get comfortable.

Since i'm fairly new to REI in general I'm not too sure what the market is like in the OC in comparison to other markets or the past other than prices are a lot higher now. I'm leaning more towards buying property to house hack for awhile.

Thank you so much for your input, it helps a lot!

Hi @Melissa Gittens, thank you so much for the advice.  House hacking is actually one of the main things I am looking into.  If you have any advice or knowledge that you can share about house hacking that would be great!

@Aaron K. I am trying to save up enough funds to afford property in the orange county or Long beach area. Until then, i'm look more to just learn about those markets, find out different strategies or approaches there are to get into the market and to start putting a defined plan to jump into REI.

Hi @Kristina Heimstaedt! You make a great point about the finances.  I'm definitely still learning about about finances and how to make it work for me.  I'm still fairly new in my financial journey but I feel like I have definitely made some progress compared to myself from 2 years ago.

If you have any advice you can pass on, that would be amazing and thank you for reaching out.

Hi @Sanjeev Advani, I'm mainly looking into house hacking right now and how to make that happen in SoCal but I am open to learning about investing in other markets and Counties.  I'm actually originally from Fresno so I wouldn't mind learning more about the market in Kern county.  If you have any advice or knowledge you can pass down that would be amazing!

Hi @Joe Homs, you hit it right on the head. Right now i'm concentrating on educating myself as much as possible to prep before jumping into REI and if that time lines up with the next downturn then that would be great. If you have any knowledge or advice you can share with me that would be great! Good Investing to you too.

Hi @Aaron K., I have briefly looked into FHA loans and a pretty vague understanding of it. Corona is an option but something a little closer to Irvine would be best. I would love to discuss with you if you have any advice on house hacking, FHA loans or anything else.

@Brian Singer Yup, you are exactly right about living in one unit and renting out the others.

It's funny you listed those neighborhoods because those were some of the areas I was looking into.  I definitely do want to keep an open mind on the area so Corona, Riverside and Colton can be an option but ideally something close to work would be best.

I am a little weary about investing outside of California because i'm so new to this, but would definitely love to hear if you have any advice or tips.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Alex and I'm a new born when it comes to RE investing.  I'm currently working in Irvine as a Scientist for a medical device company and renting in Lake Forest area.  I went to school at UCI and been working since I graduated in 2013.

I'm mainly interested in house hacking, but since I don't have a lot of funds for a down payment right now I'm skeptical about when I can get into the market.  I'm mainly looking for advice, to hear about anyone's experiences in investing in the SoCal market, any lessons learned  and to being a sponge and learning as much as I can.  I'm really excited about learning more about RE investing and how I can use it reach financial freedom.  I want to be able to hit a point where I can work out of want instead of need.
