@Kenzer Hodgson

I am dealing with a similar decision (replacing counter tops); currently have something similar to yours. I did for a short duration think about butcher block and decided against it for all the reasons mentioned already. Decided to go with a light (almost white) quartz with grey veins (have white cabinets and grey vinyl floor). You can’t really hurt quartz, it is very resistant to heat, scratches, etc.). Will probably think about a backsplash that accents well with this color scheme and make it pop!

My STR has a front door and a side door - both have regular locks and deadbolts. Looking to transition to electronic deadbolts that I can control remotely.

For those of you who have two doors, do you have electronic deadbolts on both with same code or do you only have one and the second door has a regular lock with key?

I am trying to figure out how to keep it simple but safe - meaning avoiding a situation where guests forget to lock on their way out after a stay.

Thank you

@Andrew Steffens

As some of you may remember, I am in the process of starting an STR and have two bookings for the summer already which I am excited about! But also a bit nervous because of the exact concern/question brought up by the OP here.

I have to say that the overwhelming positive responses here are encouraging and reassuring and offering some relief relative to what seems to be very few bad experiences from those who have had managed STRs for a while.

Appreciate everyone’s comments on this topic!

Thanks

@Christina B.

Hi thanks for your comments and link.

Your message is very timely - we just got our first booking - was so excited after the deflating scam booking inquiry. My first booking is for 4 nights over the 4th of July weekend - yaay!

Still lots of work to do on the house and the “book” I still have to figure out what to do for it (paper/digital/both), and a few more things I probably am not yet aware of … reading on this forum and asking questions sure has helped out a lot.

Thank you!

@Monique P. Definitely. Thanks for your advice. Did ask about specifics they are interested in and after 8 hrs of no response I reported it as spam.
