@Carl Mccrory I'm in Oki as well and would be interested as well...trying to get into my first investment myself.

Hey @Daniel Ryu

I am going to be around in Korea for the next few weeks and was wondering if there are any upcoming meet ups on the horizon.  If there is anything going on this weekend or next I would love to stop by.  Looks like you are have a lot of good stuff going on and I would love to be able to go to a meet up.  Thanks!

Hi @Maxwell Hunter, I am somewhat familiar with Atlanta; that said, a big part of the reason on want to actually go and visit is because I want to become more familiar.  I know that I am looking to be on the outskirts of downtown, and on the north side of town.  I am thinking Smyrna, Sandy Springs, or Vinnings...somewhere like that.  I would like to get a better feel though once I get there.

Hello all,

I am getting ready to head out to the states in a couple of weeks from Okinawa.  I will be heading to Atlanta in hopes to finding my first rental property.  I am in the market for a 2-4 plex type property and hope to find something that will suit my needs.  Living overseas, one of the biggest challenges I will have to face will be managing my property from a distance, therefore I will need to make some good contacts and trustworthy business relationships.  So going into this, I know one thing I can do up front before I leave is start looking at some financing options.

I already have a few mortgage brokers I am planning on getting in touch with, but does anyone have any good suggestions brokers in the greater Atlanta area?

Secondly, one of the most important things I will need will be a good property manager as well especially considering I live in Japan.

Lastly anything else major that I could/should do in order to prep for my trip?  I am very excited to look at properties and hope to find something that will suit my needs, but that said it is my first..so there will be much to learn.  Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Adam

Hey Jason welcome to BP!  I am also living in Oki for the time being and am looking to get into real estate investing as well.  I have been a part of this community for several months now and have used this resource to learn many great things, as well as make some connections.  I am hoping to be able to put my first deal together in the Atlanta area sometime around the March timeframe.  If you ever just want to meet up and chat let me know...there are a few of us around here.

David I wouldn't mind spending some time drinking some coffee and chatting, but as far as experience is concerned I am pretty much in the same boat as you.  I can however recommend a lot of the books that I have read that will maybe help you figure out which direction you want to go.  I also have a friend who has plenty of experience investing, maybe he could join along too.

@Daniel Ryu

I'm also a BP member looking to get into investing, hoping to buy my first property in the next couple of months.  I currently am living in Japan as well, but frequently make trips to Seoul.  In fact I should be in Seoul in the April timeframe (I know thats a ways away) and would love to attend a meeting if you have anything going on.  I am always interested in meeting new people and learning as much as possible.

@Tyler Warner I am actually living in Okinawa as well and have a lot of the same interests as you do.  I recently started getting into real estate as well and have plowed through pretty much the same amount of material as you have.  The only difference is I am going to be here another two years, so for me waiting really isn't an option.  My plans are to go and spend a week or so in the states, find some property I want to purchase, and then do everything else from here....I know it will be tough, but I actually have a friend has has done it, so I know its possible.  Look forward to hearing from you.

@Azeez K. That is quite an impressive thread with a lot of information.  Thanks for pointing me to that, now on with the reading.  It looks to be very useful.  Thank you.
