Boise, Idaho: Hyde Park Historic District
When you travel, are you trying to scope out the local hangout? Hotspot? Must see? The place that locals love and you want to experience when you visit? Well, we are here to give you the inside scoop on one of Boise's favorite hangouts!
Hyde Park, part of the Boise’s North End, is definitely a local favorite. Hyde Park, also referred to as the Hyde Park Historic District, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The North End says that Hyde Park was added to the National Historic Register for two reasons:
1) The building & architecture of the area is unique
2) A “sub” urban retail area of the age of Hyde Park is unusual. It rivals famous areas like the Niles District in Oakland.
Walking down the streets of Hyde Park you’ll find seven specialty shops, nine of the best eateries Boise has to offer, and beautifully designed old-fashioned homes! During the year, local merchants host events and activities for the neighborhood to enjoy. One of the most well-known and most well-attended event is the Hyde Park Street Fair, which started in 1979. The Hyde Park Street Fair takes place at Camel’s Back Park and is one of the largest neighborhood events around. The event attracts artists and vendors from all over and has approximately 40,000 attendees in one weekend!
Another popular part of Hyde Park is Goody's! We love Goody’s. Goody’s is an old-fashioned ice cream chocolate, and candy store located on 13th Street in Hyde Park. Ask any Boise local for the best place to go if you have a sweet tooth... Goody's will definitely be the answer!
We even checked TripAdvisor to see if others truly loved Hyde Park as much as us Boiseans do!
A Utah resident said, “…It was so cute to walk among old homes and pop into a few of them to browse the specialties.”
A visitor from New Mexico said, “We visited several times during our March 2017 visit to Boise. Great neighborhood, several good restaurants to choose from – we will be sure to return.”
An individual from Michigan said, “Hyde Park is amazing. There are so many great stores and restaurants… I love spending my time down here on my visits to Boise.”
There are more, but you get the jist!
Hyde Park is definitely a must-see when you visit the Treasure Valley.
