How To Adjust To Life As An Entrepreneur

Quitting your 9-5 job and setting your own schedule as a new real estate investor is the ultimate dream. Being your own boss and having a sense of freedom can be an amazing experience if you stay on track. The first couple of months can be tough as you have no guidance, no set hours and no bi-weekly paycheck anymore! Here are some tips on how to adjust.

1. Have a Plan

Just as in any business, you need a plan to execute. Do you have an "I buy houses fast" type website setup? Marketing plan? Have short and long term goals, as well as a daily, weekly and monthly schedule. This plan is not set in stone as things change, but having a set plan w individual milestone goals will help you stay on track and not get distracted.

2 Have a Daily Routine

Sometimes it's hard to get yourself motivated for the day. It can seem overwhelming on where to even begin or know what to do first. For this reason, you should start each day with a solid morning routine. I suggest starting a daily morning ritual of exercise or meditation, breakfast, reading the news, and then checking your daily goals and schedule. I highly recommend not jumping straight out of bed and checking work emails.

3. Allow Time For Personal Health

Entrepreneurs can get completely caught up in their business. It is important for your personal health, and the health of your relationships if you take time for yourself to enjoy other things besides work. Clear your head, plan a vacation, walk, meditate, read a book, take a class. Make sure to eat healthy and drink water, as these habits will go a long way to helping you stay focused.

4. Set Reminders To Stay On Track

Sometimes it can be hard to stay on track with your daily plan. To help with distractions and days where you just want to check Facebook all day, I would suggest setting reminders throughout the day for the important tasks and daily goals you have set to finish. Use your alarm to remind yourself to stay focused on the task at hand or look into time management apps.

5. Reward Yourself

Set rewards for yourself for hitting certain milestones, or getting through tough tasks that you have been procrastinating on. Recognize your small victories along the way to long-term goals. Splurge on that nice dinner or spa day after closing your first deal. Buy the shoes, eat the cake, take the vacation!

6. Keep Learning

Sometimes, you just need a little inspiration. Watch a TED talk. Sign up for an educational webinar. Invest in new real estate flipping software to help you. Listen to a podcast on your daily walk. Continuing education will not only help you with your new career path, but it will also motivate you to remember why you left the day-to-day grind of the 9-5 to begin with.

Good luck on your new ventures!
