Advertising and Renting Out Your Self-Storage

When you are looking for self-storage renters, Facebook and Google can be excellent allies. They track what people are talking about, what they are searching for and then they put ads in front of those consumers to meet their needs. If you have a self-storage business Facebook page, then you can get your business in front of people who need self-storage today. If you have a Google page, then you can market to people who search for self-storage.

When you create your Facebook page or your Google page, make sure that you have pictures of your self-storage facility. You need to have videos of your place as well as photos. Let your renters know what your site looks like before they even arrive.

Don’t just post ads on your sites. Make sure that you post things that will draw attention. Pets sell. Bring in your pets as you take pictures. Or as you post things on your Facebook page, find things that are funny that will draw attention to your page.

In addition, put together articles that can help potential renters with spring cleaning or tidying up the garage. More importantly, show them how getting all that stuff out of the garage and into your storage unit, will make room for the car. Show them that the space that all those items are hogging can go in your unit instead of in their home.

Your Facebook page doesn’t do any good if no one knows it exists. You need to go out and find and join Facebook pages that are complimentary to yours. For example, if you have Boat and RV Storage, join social networks of people who are outdoorsy. Join pages for people who travel in RV’s. Make sure that anything you post in these locations is educational and helpful. This will draw attention to your page without sounding like an ad. When they visit your page, they can find out how wonderful you are and why they want to switch.

Typically, it takes 60-90 days to build brand awareness. If you are building, keep this in mind, you want to start advertising at least 90 days prior to opening so that you have renters when you are ready to open.

One of the hardest things about marketing to self-storage renters is that they come from all walks of life. Marketing on Google and Facebook allows you to target your audience without wasting as much of your advertising dollars as other types of advertising might. Find ways to stretch your marketing money, as always, happy investing.
