First Business Hire - Handle The Books

When growing a business a small business owner will always struggle with increasing their resource base and new business acquisition. The new business owner will have to wear a lot of hats because they usually aren't working from the grounds of a new start up company with venture capitalist money. They are working off their own bank account and working their tail off to do everything. At some point the business will become too much for one person and the decision to invest some of the money into growth is a necessity. What I have learned is that if the business owner is not an accountant by trade, that someone to handle the books of the business is a great first hire. It is not a sexy and exciting way to spend your first hard earned dollars, but it helps you build a foundation that is accurate and solid. You do not want to have to clear out 3 weeks at the end of a year to go back over all of your books or hire an outside 3rd party accountant to go over everything to make sure you did it all right.
