The Challenges of The Knock

Door knocking is not for everyone, but it can be effective in certain markets, the more you try it, and the more you convey your message to the people answering the door, will increase your odds by getting better at your script, and increase your odds due to the fact that you are in front of more people each day. The message you are conveying is selling your services. The hardest part for me, and I believe this goes for anyone is the fear of being rejected, a person saying NO!

Culture!

In reality as a culture people live in the comfort zone because of the no word. This zone is free of judgement and rejection. We as a culture develop this into our children and youth. When we raise children and they grow up through the years they will relentlessly ask for something, and still get a no until the parents breakdown, or the child walks away because they did not want whatever it was they were asking for that badly. Once children are born they have the want and need to proceed passed the rejection of hearing no; however, the older we get the word no becomes a hard pill to swallow, which gets harder to hear as we grow older.

Door knocking and rejection goes hand-in-hand. Knowing that there will be a lot of rejection prior to a yes or an acceptance is what holds people back. It is what held me back from being able to get out there and meet those homeowners, landlords, and brokers. As a whole, the human population has defied odds in many different ways to the point of even being on this earth! Life is what a person makes of it and the more times someone gets knocked down, then gets back up for more end up being more successful. This twist on the old adage can be directed at door knocking since there will be a lot of knockdowns, but if the agent or investor keeps at it they will grow their business tremendously because of their continuous action.

The Plan: The Ultimate 60-Day Action Plan for the Paralyzed Newbies Longing for a First Deal

In many different areas the marketing plan has to be right and the execution has to be even better; however, the more time and effort that is put into one plan the more results that come out of that plan. "The harder you work, the luckier you get.”- Gary Player. Make sure that the area, target market, or community is not too big to tackle, and then setout to conquer that area even if there is someone else working that area. The fact that someone is in that same area, or community you are looking to start in should not make you change your game plan or target market. You will have some competition, butmake sure that you are as consistent as possible because you will outshine that competitor. If you are consistent and stick to your word (be reliable) people will start to use your services verse the other person that may be lacking that consistency.

If the effort stays consistent with the same face showing up during the same day of the week, or same week of the month with the same information there will eventually be a breakthrough to the community. Even if there are other investors working that area, the consistency and the consistency of material that is being given will hold higher value then someone that has been working that area for longer than a newbie. This is trust, and it is only won after patience and consistency is applied. That person that has been farming that area may not be as consistent, as reliable, as trustworthy, you name it; however, you will need to keep the patience to prevail. Everything will start to move, it takes time for people to warm up to someone new even if that person does not live in the same neighborhood.

What holds you back? What do you think can create extra value to people marketing through door knocking?

Do you think door knocking is good or bad, and does is work in your market?

  1. Great post, I have had some success with door knocking. Its weird sometimes I can summon the balls to do it and other times its like the door has an invisible force field around it. I have a friend and all he does is door knock and he KILLS IT. This is  muscle that I have to work on because its becoming a lost art.

    thanks again

    1. Yes, it seems to hold us back, that random little voice in our head telling us something is going to go very wrong! It is when you push past that and get to the door knocking, and will actually get a lot of success since a lot of people do not have those situations happen to them. Just like your friend, which is why he is killing it!

      Thank you for commenting Seth!
