Identify Your Value Then Move In For The Kill

In this short period of time I have learned that it is super important to identify what makes you valuable when it comes to REI, For newbies like myself, most of the time our main goal is to find someone willing to teach us the ropes! But we have to bring something to the table, I am not saying there are no coaches out there willing to teach you out the kindness of their hearts but 9 times out of 10 they require something in return. Whether it is money or a services that will in turn help their business as well.

For people just starting out (especially with limited capital) you need to first evaluate yourself. What do you have that another investor may need, what can you offer in return for them taking the time out of their business to teach you how to build yours?

For me, it is my background in business management and project management because I ran a contracting company with my father. I got my hands dirty with the manual labor as well as did all of the back work as well. Because we were a small company I had no choice but to wear multiple hats. Keep in mind, the entire time I knew I wanted to become a RE Investor "one day". I guess that energy manifested itself because although we didn't specifically target investors our clients were for the most part investors! This allowed for me to get a feel for RE and the needs of investors when it comes to rehabbing homes for flips or long term rentals.

Now, I can step back ans say with confidence that I can help other investors in that area of the business in exchange for coaching or partnerships. I also like the idea that I can help investors out of state who want to expand into my area by becoming their boots on the ground.

I understand not all of us have a background in project management or anything RE related but you will be surprised how you can first find your strengths and then apply them to RE. Stay positive, keep pushing and be creative. Remember RE is a business in itself, there are a ton of ways to fit into a "business". Once you are in, go from there.
