What Is Momentum and Why We Should Build It
I've been following Tony Robbins and his videos and I've learned a very important lesson that any real estate investor or anyone who wants to succeed in life could use.
What you have and who you are now are reflections of your current belief system and values. What it takes to really succeed and improve our lives is by changing our beliefs and values -- that's it!
Since you are already here in BiggerPockets, you probably have accomplished that stage already and probably already set your mindset for the better. But why are some if not most of us still stuck in where we are now even though we listened to all the BiggerPockets podcast, watched the webinars, and the took the courses?
Well it is because we have not build our momentum.
I know you could recall a time in your life where you got so excited with finishing the project just because you are nearing its end. You got there because of the use of momentum. It's always easy to finish a project when you crossed halfway or two thirds already. So all you need to do really is to get to that spot and momentum will bring you there. Here are the steps:
Review your Goals and Create Rituals
Before you could start, you should have clear definition of what you want and where you want to be. Reviewing your goals are essential and much like the philosophy of the ONE thing, you go back and notice what are the actions that will get you there.
Breaking your goals down into achievable steps is key. But it's not enough. You also want to build something more that will get you pumped each day. These are what we call rituals.
Rituals are things you do on a regular basis that as long as you do them, it always gets you in the zone. Having your own rituals such as listening to a podcast episode per day or analyzing a deal per day will get you pumped up in reaching your mini goals that you have set.
Take Baby Steps
Once you take baby steps and hit one goal at a time, you slowly gain momentum. The first steps are usually the hardest. So don't go overboard and just focus on small, simple, and most importantly doable steps. That's all you need! Just one step to get started.
Acknowledge and Appreciate your Mini Success
Now after succeeding your first step, make sure you acknowledge and appreciate what you just did! It's very important to realize that you have taken action and no matter how small, the most important part is you did it! You then continue with your daily rituals (improve it if necessary) and get pumped each day as you move along to your next mini goal/step to accomplish. After a few wins, you will feel something flowing, which brings us to...
Feel the Power and Gain that Momentum
There is power in momentum. When you have daily wins, you gain focus, confidence, and the feeling of success. You get to develop a sense of clarity on where you are heading and this is basically what you want in reaching your goal. You will discover that more and more aid are coming your way that you never noticed before! You will find people that will inspire you. But most importantly, you will discover great improvements on yourself. You have been taking actions that you will soon end up realizing your big goal that you had in step 1.
So go out there, follow these steps and I wish you all the success in life!
