Coaching?really...

Many people are offering coaching these days. Back when I had a coach, that person was there showing me the basics and then overseeing my progress. They didnt take the ball away from me and said they can do it quicker and better than I can!

Seems that what most "coaches" are doing these days. Are they coaching or just finding deals for themselves and allowing the student some of the scrapes.

I think there should be a clear definition for "coaching". One that does not benefit the coach more than the student. If so- call it a consultant or partnership or looking for a bird-dog...

S0- if you want to coach or looking for one- my suggestion is to define the roles prior to starting the relationship.

  1. Good one John! This is a very topical issue, as I have seen evidence of this also. As with everything in life-especially real estate due diligence is key.

  2. Couldn't agree more. I got into coaching because I love to teach, coach, mentor and grow talent. I actually made more money flipping houses... I make it clear from the beginning that it is THEIR business... not mine. THEY must take the information given and apply it. THEY choose to succeed or not. Nice post, John.

  3. Coaching is truly being over-extended in some circumstances. There are quite a few out there turning their students into their personal bird dogs, but there are also great coaches out there that are worth their weight in gold. As with everything, I suggest getting referrals and reviewing 3rd party testimonials.
